Staff Reporter :
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) K M Nurul Huda said that Shujon Secretary Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar was not the right person to object to the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in city polls.
He said it while talking with the regional election officials in the divisional city of Barishal on Saturday morning.
Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) Secretary Badiul Alam Majumdar said that people had no faith in the Election Commission to hold a free and fair election. The use of EVM will be hindrance to the fair election.
CEC quoted the Badiul’s remarks and said he had not enough knowledge to speak about EVM. I think he is not proper person to talk about the EVM.
K M Nurul Huda again confirmed and said Dhaka’s two city corporations mayor election will be held with the use of EVM.
‘ The commission decided to use EVM in city corporation election to ensure free and fair election. As people can ensure their voting right, we don’t want to deprive them of their right.’
‘If the election officials refer to any problem in the use of EVM, the commission will review the decision, he added.
CEC further said, we are too cordial to hold a fair election. The Commission decided to use EVM in order to hold a fair and acceptable election.
He also hoped that the City polls will be held with a festive and competitive manner.
