The implementing organization of the flyovers in port city – Chattogram Development authority has taken initiatives to handover the responsibilities of repairs, renovation s and maintenance of the flyovers to the Chattogram City Corporation. In connection of the handover, CDA in the meantime sent a letter to the concerned ministry, CDA chief Engineer Kaz I Hasan Bin Shams confirmed the matter to media persons.
The chief Engineer said CDA has constructed four flyovers in the city and till today CDA is looking the maintenance of these flyovers. But a good amount of money is required for maintenance whereas there is no sources of income .
He said as per existing laws, street lighting in the city is being looked by the CCC but these flyovers were not handed over to CCC as yet. In the meantime CDA has taken initiatives to hand over these to CCC.
Meanwhile CDA wanted to construct shops under flyovers and rent out open spaces under flyovers but following the oppositions of CCC, Police authority and other service providing agencies, CDA backed from this decision and on the other hand higher court imposed Rule Nishi over construction of shops etc.
The flyovers so far constructed by CDA are – Akhtaruzzaman Flyover from Muradpur to Lalkhan Bazar MA Mannan Flyover from Sulakbahar to Bahaddarhat,Dewanhat flyover and Kadamtali flyover.
