CCTF projects nearing completion in Sylhet Div

Works on the 4 projects worth Tk 174.6 million under the Climate Change Trust Fund (CCTF) has been going on in full swing in Sylhet division and are expected to be completed by the end of June this year, a senior official in the Water Development Board (WDB) informed.
 Superintending Engineer of the WDB, Sylhet region AKM Nurul Islam Sarker told this correspondent in an interview that 75 per cent works had already been completed on the 550 metre long protection of Surma and Singer riverbanks at Sheikhpara, Jangalia, Zogirgaon, Fatehpur of Sylhet sadar upazila and Akilpur and Lamakazi area in Biswanath and sadar upazilas. The works began in September 2013 and would be completed by June 30 this year. The second project on the protection of 220 metre long Lova river bank in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet began in September 2014 and is expected to be completed in June this year as over 60 per cent works are already done. The cost is Tk 19.6 million, the official informed.
Works on the Basia river excavation project in Biswanath upazila was started in September 2013 and is nearing completion at a cost of Tk 80 million. Completion of the 18 km long excavation programme would increase the dried up river’s navigability and help the farmers for irrigation facilities. It is spread over the Sylhet sadar, Biswantah and Dakshin Surma upazilas.
 The 4th project of riverbank protection at a cost of Tk 25 million has been going on in Beanibazar upazila where 210 metre long area on Kurarbazar area is being protected from the severe erosion. It would be completed in June this year, Mr. Sarker added
