CCC councillor sent to jail

Chattogram Bureau :
A court in Chattogram sent Saraipara Ward Councillor under Chattogram city corporation Saber Ahmed to jail on Tuesday over the killing of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Mahiuddin Sohel.
Saber’s lawyer Sheikh M Iftekhar Shimul said his client had been taken into police custody.
The Awami League leader secured a month’s interim bail from the High Court. He was told to get bail from the subordinate court within this period.
Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Akbar Hossain Mridha rejected his bail plea after a hearing in the case.
BCL leader Sohel was lynched by a mob at Pahartali Railway Market for alleged extortion on January 7.
Sohel’s family claimed that it was a premeditated murder. His younger brother Shakirul Islam Shishir filed a case at Double Mooring Police Station naming 27 people. Saber is one of the main accused. So far, 17 suspects have been arrested.
