Chittagong City Corporation and Chittagong WASA expressed consensmeeus to work joinitly to implement the master plan of drainage and swerage in the city aimed at mitigating the pro-long waterlogging problems of Chittagong.
This was disclosed by the city mayor AJM Nasiruddin at a press meet held at CCC Conference Hall on Thursday afternoon . Managing Director of CWASA Engr. Fazlullah was also present in the press meet.
A memorandum of understaing in between CCC and WASA was signed in the press meet. CWASA will spent Tk.2000 crores for the project and expected to comple the work by 2030 . CWASA Managing Director Engr. Fazlullah told that two systems consists of Drainage and Swerage to be separately implemented otherwise the city dwellers will face crisis of sweet water .
Lack of separate system of drainage and swerage , hundred tons of wastes are dumping in the Karnaphuli and Halda river daily and once upon a time, the water of these two river will be turned like Buriganga river whlich will create crisis of sweet water.
About waterlogging, city mayor said the drainage master plan of 1995 must be implemented otherwise the waterlogging will remain in the city round the year.He said a mega project t o resolve the waterlogging at a cost of tk.5000 crores has been taken in hand with the assistance of Chinese fund.
The experts in the press meet opined three reasons of waterlogging like non-excavation of khals of drainage , unhindered dumping of household wastes in the drains, canals and unauthorised occupation of land of chaktai canal .
Chairman of WASA Dr.Nazrul Islam was also present in the press meet, a CCC sources said.
