Gaibandha Correspondent :
Farmers of Gaibandha’s Sadulapur cultivate winter vegetables on most of the lands after the floods. The yield has also been good. However, the prices of all types of vegetables have come down. Which frustrated the farmers in the district. Cauliflower is now being sold at the lowest price at Tk 1 a kg. Since the price is only one taka, many people are feeding cows as cow feed.
It has been seen that cauliflower is being sold wholesale for only 1 taka per kg. Yet retailers are not buying cauliflowers. As a result, the storekeepers are facing losses.
Munna Saha, a vegetable seller at Sadullapur Bazar, said the price of vegetables is declining every day now as compared to a few days ago. However, the price of cauliflower has decreased the most. The price of per kg cauliflower in the wholesale market is only Tk1! Even after that, cauliflower is not being sold in Dhaperhat Bazar and Sadullapur town, which are famous for their vegetable stores.
Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, a farmer from Zainpur village in the upazila, said he is now using cauliflower as cattle feed as prices had come down. He is buying cauliflower at wholesale price from the market every day and feeding it to the cows. He does not have to give feed or husk to the cows at present.
Khazanur Rahman, Upazila Agriculture Officer, cauliflower was cultivated on 1100 hectares of land in the upazila. About 16,500 metric tons of cauliflowers have been produced. Due to good weather, farmers have got an unexpected yield of winter vegetables. The price of cauliflower has fallen a little more. However, the farmers have already got a fair price for the vegetables produced.
