Plan International Bangladesh has distributed unconditional cash of Tk 2,600 to 5000 among the flood-affected households in three unions at Nageswari Upazila of Kurigram on Tuesday .
For September 2019, under the project of Emergency Response to flood affected people in northern Kurigram district of Bangladesh funded by Swedish International Development Co-operation agency (SIDA).
This is a six months project. NGO of Kurigram SOLIDARITY has been implementing this project in Kedar, Kachakata, Ballabher Khas most flood affected unions in Nageshari Upazila. Mostofa Zaman, Chairman, Upazila Parishad of Nageshori was present as chief guest, Imamul Azam, Head of Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change and Ashish Kumar Bakshi, Divisional Manager of Plan International Bangladesh, Harun OR Rashid Lal, Executive Director of Solidarity were present as special guest while Chairmen of respective Union Parishads presided over the distribution meeting on the day.
One person from each household receives the money along with a SIM card to access the Mobile Money Transfer (MMT). Most families use this money to meet their immediate basic needs of food, shelter and to restart their livelihoods.”I am very excited to get this money. I will buy a goat, hens and ducks with the money. During the flood, I lost my cattle and poultry. With this money, I will be able to recover from this loss and look after my family,” says one of the cash transfer beneficiaries Shokhiton.
