A woman has filed a case against Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Muhammad Mohiuddin Faroque on charges of forced abortion.
According to court sources, the woman, claiming to be the wife of police officer Mohiuddin Faroque, filed the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury on Tuesday.
Recording the complainant’s statement, the court directed the Detective Branch (DB) of
the Police to investigate the allegations and submit a report by May 8.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Raju Hawlader Palash confirmed the news to the media.
According to the case file, the woman met AIG Mohiuddin Faroque over Facebook in 2019. In the same year, Farooq forcibly had sexual relations with this woman. When Mohiuddin was informed about the pregnancy, on March 20 last year, Farooq tactfully gave her abortion medicine.
On March 26 of the same year, the complainant became seriously ill and was taken to a hospital in the capital. When Mohiuddin Faroque was informed of this on April 26, he became angry and threatened the woman. The woman asked him to marry her. Otherwise, she said she would take the shelter of the law. At this Accused Mohiuddin Faroque, who identified himself as the husband of the complainant, signed a bond with the hospital authorities.
It is alleged that the abortion was performed without the consent of the woman. They later got married on June 8. They have a child.
