A case has been lodged against 18 JL, BCL cadres and 2 arrested on Tuesday for attacking AL backed UP chairman of Mahilara union in Gournadi upazila of the district.
Manirul Islam, officer in charge of Gournadi police station, confirming the report said Soikat Guha Piklu, chairman of Mahilara UP and former upazila BCL secretary, as complainant lodged the case on early Tuesday.
In the case 12 leaders and activists of BCL and JL were accused by-name and six others were unnamed.
After that police operating a drive arrested Russell Rari, union BCL secretary and Mangol Sardar, local JL leader on the same night.
The arrestees were sent to upazila judicial magistrate court at Barisal on Tuesday noon and the court sent them to jail at afternoon, the police official told.
Soikat Guha Piklu said after attending a meeting of collecting and renewal membership of AL at Mahilara school field, when he came out of the programme miscreants led by Russell attacking him started beating.
