UNB, Dhaka :
A human chain was formed at the foot of Aparajeya Bangla on the Dhaka University campus on Sunday demanding the withdrawal of a case filed against Jamuna TV senior reporter Nazmul Hossain under section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act.
Students of the DU Mass Communication and Journalism Department arranged the human chain programme. Some teachers of the university spoke on the occasion.
On June 23, Nazmul, also a former student of the DU Mass Communication and Journalism department, uploaded a Facebook post tiled ‘Justice’s Red Stairs and Delwar’s Crutch’ apparently on the plight of the homebound people by trains before Eid-ul-Fitr.
On July 3, a case was filed against Nazmul for making derogatory comments on the practice and protocol duty of the judges and three others for sharing the post.
In his speech, acting Dean of the DU Social Sciences faculty Prof AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan said many aspects of the 57 section are not clear. “If you’re arrested under this section, you won’t get bail.
