Cartoonist Kabir Kishore and writer Mushtaq Ahmed were sent to jail after rejecting their bail petitions in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akhter passed the order on Wednesday.
Ramna police station Sub-Inspector Jamshedul Islam, also investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court and sought an order to keep them in jail.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Kishore and Mushtaq from city’s Kakrail and Lalmatia area respectively and then handed them over to police.
Later, a case was filed against the duo and nine others with the Ramna Police Station.
According to police, Cartoonist Kabir Kishore had been posting various critical cartoon-posters on the role of the government over the ongoing coronavirus situation in the country on his “Ami Kishore” Facebook page and Mushtaq shared the posts on his Facebook page.
Meanwhile, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a writer Didarul Islam Bhuiyan from city’s Uttar Badda area on Tuesday night and later handed him over to Ramna Police Station on Wednesday.
The family of Didarul Islam said that Didar was working at his office adjacent to his house and the plainclothe people took away him at about 6:15pm.
Didarul’s brother-in-law Zakir Hossain Chowdhury said that the plainclothed people claimed that they were taking him in connection with another case in Digital Security Act. He said that they took away his laptops, CPU and mobile phones.
