A pedestrian was run over by a speedy bus at Shahbagh intersection, Dhaka on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Omar Faruk, 50, son of late Abdus Samad of Matlab upazila of Chandpur. He was the car driver of a BIRDEM hospital doctor.
Victim’s relative Shopna Begum told the media that Faruk came back to Dhaka from his home district on Tuesday after burying his recently demised father. Today he was waiting at
the Shabagh bus stand to receive his wife who was coming to BIRDEM hospital for treatment.
Just then, a city bus rammed him and he was critically injured. Doctor declared him dead when he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Traffic Sergeant Mohammad Sarwar, working in the Shahbagh area, told the media that Omar Faruq stood on the road. At that time, a passenger bus’s wheel samshed his head.
Md Shahed, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Shahbagh Police Station, said that Faruk was rammed by a bus.The bus was seized and driver arrested.
The body was kept in DMCH hospital morgue.
