Children here on Thursday took to the street demanding death penalty for the killers of 12-year-old boy Rakib as protest against the brutal killing continued.
The children of Khulna launched a three-day protest programme to press home their several demands, including transfer of the Rakib killing murder to a speedy trial tribunal, taking stern actions against child oppressors and enforcing ‘zero tolerance’ principle to end repression on children.
They submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner of Khulna on the first day of the protest programme on Thursday to press home their demands. The children will form a human chain at
Dak-Bungalow intersection in the city on Friday.
Besides, hundreds of people of Khulna, including schoolchildren, staged demonstrations, formed human chains and held rallies chanting slogans and venting their anger at the killers of Rakib.
On Wednesday, two days after the gruesome killing, another eyewitness Nabil Hasan Fahim, 9, a fourth grader of a local madrasah, gave his statement over the Rakib killing.
In another development, a Khulna court on Thursday placed Beauty Begum, mother of prime accused Sharif and also an accused herself, on a three-day remand. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Faruk Iqbal passed the order hearing a remand petition filed by Sadar Police Station sub-inspector Kazi Mostaque Ahmed, also the investigation officer of the case, on Tuesday.
On the other hand, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nibash Chandra Majhi said charge sheet in the Rakib killing case will be submitted within this month. He also said steps will be taken to transfer the case to the speedy trial tribunal for its quick disposal. The KMP commissioner visited Khulna Sadar Police Station and ordered police to investigate the sensational incident with utmost sincerity.
In another incident, a fake journalist, Ali Hossain, was given a mass beating on Wednesday evening for offering Rakib’s father Nur Hossain to compromise over the murder. Meanwhile, elite of the society have asked for building a social resistance to bring an end to child oppression and killing.
