Md. Emadaul Haque, Dupchanchia :
The candidates of chairman, vice-chairman and woman vice-chairmen are passing busy time here in six upazilas of Bogra district.
The candidates are moving door to door from morning to evening restlessly for seeking votes . The areas are now gripped by growing election fever as the upazila polls are set to be held in phases with participation of all political parties, including BNP and Jamaat.
The first phase election of six upazilas including Dupchanchia, Sariyakandi, Dhunat, Nandigram , Sherpur and Sonatola, is knocking the door as the polling is scheduled to take place on February 19 and candidates and their supporters are engaged in hectic electioneering in the six upazilas.
Election office sources said , some 56 aspirants from all major parties, including the ruling Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party are set to contest the elections. But tension mounting in the both the camps as rebel candidates are on the race by defying the orders of the respective party high commands.
Amid political developments, the voters are also upbeat for the elections in electing their representatives as they have been deprived of exercising their voting right in the recently-held national elections due to a boycott and resistance by the BNP and its allies on their demand for holding the polls under a nonparty administration.
BNP leader Abdul Hamid said, as the national elections and local elections are not the same, leaders of my party are set to contest the polls. BNP men took part in upazila election which is going to be held in phases, he added.
