The Canadian government has extended its support to the developing countries, including Bangladesh, to help comply with the international standard for food safety, animal and plant health.
The federal government of the North American nation on Thursday announced a donation of 200,000 Canadian dollars to the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
“The donation will help developing and least-developed countries improve their sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) capacity,” a WTO statement said, adding that it would also enable the developing and least developing countries to have access to the global agricultural markets more easily.
“I welcome Canada’s latest contribution. This generous donation will help to sustain the support that the WTO provides to developing and least-developed countries so that their farmers can meet sanitary and phytosanitary standards and increase their agricultural exports”, WTO Director-General Roberto Azev^do said.
