Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Syed Khokon launched a 15-day campaign on Monday to destroy larvae or pupae of Aedes mosquitoes that transmit viral diseases – Chikungunya and Dengue. Khokon inaugurated the programme in city’s Dhanmondi area by removing stagnant water from houses and under construction buildings. “The campaign would run at 57 wards,” Khokon said adding, “An experimental drive would be run to destroy the breeding place of Aedes mosquito at minimum 100 houses of each ward.”
“This campaign would encourage people and create awareness on this issue. If we keep our surroundings clean and remove stagnant water, then Aedes mosquitoes will not breed,” he said.
