Poura elections: Campaign in full swing in Barisal

Election campaign is going on in full swing for the posts of mayor and councilors of six Pourashabha in Barisal district.
With election round the corner to be held on 30th of this month.
Turnout of the polls will mainly be between the candidates of Awami League and BNP for the post of mayor, it is speculated.
Candidates of the ruling party AL however appeared seem to be happier as there is no rebel candidate from the own party for the post of mayors in six Pourashabhas,
MPs and central leaders of the ruling party backing the election campaign with the vigor,
Though a little lesser in campaign, yet BNP candidates are also approaching the voters from door to door and have made remarkable progress.
In Gournadi Pourashabha central leaders of BNP including Abdus Sobhan Engineer, member of the central executive body and Begum Selima Rahman, vice president of central body, are campaigning hard in favour of their mayor candidate Shafikur Rahman Sharif.
They have held number of meetings and also have made individual approach to the voters.
Sitting chairman and AL candidate Harisur Rahman Haris has approached almost every voter of this Pourashabha.
In Muladi Pourashabha, Advocate Jaiunul Abedin, advisor of BNP chairperson, and other central leaders have been campaigning in favour of their candidate Asad Mahmud.
Shafikuzzaman Rubel, AL candidate and reigning mayor seems to be ahead in campaign in this Pourashabha.
In Mehendiganj Pourashabha it appears to be a close fight between AL candidate and present mayor Kamaluddin Khan and BNP candidate Giasuddin Dwipen.
In Bakerganj Pourashabha, AL candidate Lokman Hossain Dakua seems to have an edge over his rival BNP candidate Matiur Rahman.
In Banaripara Pourashabha, it appears to be close contest between AL candidate Advocate Suvash Chandra Shil and BNP candidate Mahbub Master.
In Uzirpur Pourashabha AL candidate Md. Giasuddin appears to be ahead in campaign than his rival BNP candidate Shahidul Islam Khan.
In all 21 candidate are contesting for the post of 6 mayors of 6 Pourashabha, while 173 candidate are contesting seats of 54 general ward councilors and 58 female candidates are contesting for the post of 18 reserved councilors.
