Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon has urged the citizens to treat the Dhaka city as ‘their own home’.
The mayor said it at the time of inaugurating a campaign to clean the city, marking the ‘Cleaning Year-2016’ in front of the Language Martyr Rafique’s Building at the Jagannath University on Thursday.
“We spend more time in the city than we spend at home. So, it is more important to keep the city clean than the households,” the mayor said.
He also said, “Every citizen must play the role of a mayor to make the city livable. We need to nurture the city as we nurture our own houses.”
Chaired by JnU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mijanur Rahman, the programme was conducted by the university Register Engineer Md Ohidujjaman.
Besides, JnU Treasurer Professor Selim Bhuiyan, Executive officer of DSCC Khan Mohammad Belal and JnU Teachers Association President Professor Dr Kazi Saifuddin, among others, also spoke.
The Jagannath University and Dhaka South City Corporation have co-organised the cleaning campaign.
