Dhaka City Awami League joint secretary and Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam said that the anti-liberation forces have been searching for a scope to bite again.
“They have stopped creating anarchy for the time being and they will strike again. So, we have to remain vigilant against their evil design and eliminate them incorporating the new generation,” he said.
Quamrul Islam said this on Saturday while speaking at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity auditorium at Segunbagicha in the capital city. Swadhinata Shikshak Parishad (SSP) organised the discussion in commemoration of the turbulent days of March in 1971. SSP convener Prof Dr Abdul Mannan Chowdhury chaired the discussion, addressed among others by SSP leader Alauddin Siddiqui, Krishak League vice-president MA Karim and former student leaders Abdul Hannan and Shahidul Islam. Quamrul Islam said BNP has been resorting to lies round the clock following its participation in the upazila polls and by not taking part in the parliament elections.
He said, “Ziaur Rahman was involved in anti-state conspiracy during the days of the country’s war of liberation. For this reason, he was relieved of his post as sector commander in the Liberation War and he was involved, from behind the scene, in the assassination of Bangabandhu and most of his family members in August, 1975.”
The Minister said, “The irony of fate is that we are fighting them again after 43 years of independence whom we fought in the war of liberation in 1971. So many years after country’s independence, fighting has not taken place between the pro-liberation and anti- liberation forces anywhere in the world. None can cite such an instance other than in Bangladesh.”
