Kishoreganj District Health Department organised a colourful rally, discussion, seminar, free health camp, art competition of children and cultural function marking the World Health Day on Saturday.
A discussion meeting on “Universal health coverage: everyone, everywhere” was held at local art council hall on Saturday noon with Civil Surgeon Dr Habibur Rahman in the chair.
Dilara Begum Asma MP attended as Chief Guest and Police Super Mashrukur Rahman Kahled, ADC (Gen) Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil, former Director Dr Deen Mohammd and Awami League District Secretary Adv MA Afzol attended as special guests.
It was addressed among other by Deputy Director of Kishoreganj 250- Bed General Hospital Dr Md Golam Moulowa, Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Vice-Principal Dr Sajol Kuma Shaha, Deputy Director of Family Planning Md Enamur Rahman, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Mujibur Rahman, PP Adv Shah Azizul Haque, BMA District Secretary Dr. Abdul Wahab and Senior Journalist Saiful Haque Mollah Dulu.
Later, a colourful rally was brought out in the town led by Dilara Begum Asma M.P, S.P Mashrukur Rahman Khaled and Civil Surgeon Dr. Habibur Rahman.
BSS from Rajshahi says: Speakers at a post-rally discussion here yesterday unequivocally called for bringing all people under health coverage for their betterment.
They mentioned access to getting health services is fundamental rights of all people so utmost importance should be given on ensuring the services.
Civil Surgeon Office organised the discussion on the office premises to mark the World Health Day-2018. “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere” was the main theme of the day.
Various non-government development and voluntary organisations like Dascoh, Damien Foundation, Light House, BRAC, FPAB and Ashakta Punarbashan Sangstha (APOSH) joined the rally and discussion for marking the day.
Divisional Director of Health Dr Anisur Rahman, Assistant Director Ismat Ara, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Enamul Haquee, Chief Health Officer of Rajshahi City Corporation Dr Anjuman Ara Begum, BRAC District Representative Jahedul Islam, APOSH Executive Director Abul Bashar and Tilottoma Project Manager Abjalur Rashid addressed the discussion, among others.
The speakers stressed the need for reaching healthcare services to the doorstep of rural people as they are totally dependent on public hospitals for emergency health service and that is why the present government is committed to reach healthcare services to them.
Infusing more dynamism into the essential service delivery activities of community clinics has become indispensable for ensuring healthcare services to the marginalized communities for their betterment.
They viewed the district and upazila level officials and others concerned should put in their level best efforts so that the grassroots people can derive total benefits of the community clinics.
Dr Anisur Rahman said the present government is very much sincere about reaching the healthcare services towards the peoples’ doorstep and it has been working relentlessly to attain the cherished goal.
“Reactivation and revitalization of the community clinics is great achievement of the present government,” he added. Dr Rahman said the government has appointed 6,500 doctors in 2014 and it has a plan to appoint 10,000 more doctors in the near future. Problem of nurses has already been resolved through appointment of 10,000 nurses, he added.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: World Health Day-2018 was celebrated in the district as elsewhere in the country and the globe yesterday with a call to provide proper healthcare services to the people to build a healthy nation.
This year’s theme of the day is “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere”.
Marking the day, District Health Department chalked out elaborate programmes in cooperation with SKS Foundation, Gana Unnayan Kendra, Friendship, Marie Stopes Bangladesh, Sinnomul Mohila Samity, BRAC and JiVita.
In the morning, a grand rally was brought out from the premises of Civil Surgeon (CS) Office and ended at the same venue after parading the main roads of the town.
Later, a discussion meeting was also held on the office premises with CS Dr Abdus Shakur in the chair.
Additional District Magistrate (ADM) ABM Sadiqur Rahman addressed the meeting as the chief guest on behalf of Deputy Commissioner Gautam Chandra Pal.
Police Super Abdul Mannan Miah, Superintendent of Gabandha Sadar Hospital Amal Chandra Saha, President of Bangladesh Medical Association, district unit, Dr Shahiduzzaman Harun and Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr ABM Abu Hanif were present as special guests.
The speakers emphasized the need for providing medical services to the doorsteps of the people and they urged the physicians to be more serious and cordial to end this.
Sadiqur Rahman said the government has been working tirelessly to develop the health service of the country. The standard of treatment has been improved with developed infrastructure, skilled manpower, ultra modern equipments and digital technology used in health system introduced by the government, he added.
Dr Abdus Shakur said World Health Day is a global health awareness day which is observed every year on April 7 since 1948 to mark the founding anniversary of World Health Organisation (WHO).
The day provides us with a unique opportunity to mobilise action around a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world, he said.
