Call to observe Sher-e-Bangla`s birth anniv at nat`l level

Justices, Academics and other scholars on Wednesday demanded observance of the death and the birth anniversaries of Sher-e-Bangla Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque at national level. They said it in a discussion meeting held in a city restaurant on the occasion of his 143rd birth anniversary.
They speakers called also for naming the
Padma Bridge after Sher-e-Bangla A K Fazlul Haque. The Barisal Bibhag Samity organised the discussion.
 “The government should include the biography of the great leader in the educational curriculum. He was one of the most remarkable leaders of Indo-Bangla subcontinent. He strived always for the economic development of the common people and the farmers. We should not forget that,” the speakers said.
Abdul Majid, Co-convener of the council preparation committee of the organisation presided at the discussion.
Justice Mohammad Nizamul Haque Nasim of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court was the chief guest, while Justice Syed Mohammad Ziaul Karim, Dr. Mohammad Abdul Mazid former Chairman of NBR, and Mohammad Ismail, Chairman of Krishi Bank, were special guests.
Ziaul Kabir Dulu, General Secretary of the organisation, the leaders of the organisation Atiqur Rahman and M A Sobhan, among others, also delivered speech.
Justice Mohammad Nizamul Haque Nasim said, people want inclusion of Sher-e-Bangla’s life history in the textbooks of school, colleges and universities. He throughout his life worked tirelessly for the improvement of the economic conditions of the underprivileged people of Bengal in particular. He formed a body named ‘Rin Shalishi Board’ to take decisions about the fate of he loans disbursed to the poor farmers in undivided Bengal under the British colonial regime.
The wise step saved the farmers from ruination, he said adding that Sher-e-Bangla was never defeated in any election. He was one of he most popular leaders in the world of his time.
Justice Syed Mohammad Ziaul Karim said, Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque established the rights of the farmers on their lands. The government should name a chair of Dhaka University after his name.
Dr. Mohammad Abdul Mazid demanded a university after his name at Rajapur in the district of Jhalokathi–the birthplace of the legendary leader.
Mohammad Ismail said, Sher-e-Bangla contributed to make the then underprivileged Muslims the educated peoples. We should not forget him.
