Call to ensure rights of indigenous people

Speakers at a post-rally street-corner meeting unequivocally called for ensuring legitimate rights of the ethnic minority people for their peaceful existence in society.
Stressing the need for protecting their rights the discussants opined that importance should be given to protecting the underprivileged people from all sorts of deceptions as they are being subjected to frequent repression and harassment.
Brotee Somaj Kolyan Sangstha (BSKS) under its project titled ‘Protecting the Vulnerable through Community Legal Services’ organised the meeting yesterday at Shaheb Bazar Zero point, Rajshahi in association with Community Legal Services and UKaid.
With Prof Abdus Salam, president of Conscious Citizens Committee, in the chair, president of Jatiya Adibashi Parishad Rabindra Nath Saren and its presidium member Anil Marandi and district unit president Bimol Kumar Razoad and editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat spoke on the occasion.
Training and Communication Coordinator of BSKS Razendra Kumar Das moderated the discussion.
Indigenous leaders urged all the indigenous peoples of the northern region to launch a movement jointly for ensuring their rights.
Ensuring social justice and development of living and livelihood conditions of ethnically minority communities in the country’s northwest region has become indispensable for their normal life.
Calling for freeing the ethnic communities from the vicious cycle of poverty coupled with making them fit for all the nation- building activities, the speakers demanded holistic approach for the plain land ethnic communities to establish their rights.
