Speakers at a project introductory discussion have underscored the need for bringing all the grassroots poor, distressed and other needy litigants under legal aid so that they can get fair justice. To this end, judges, lawyers and others concerned should be more sincere and proactive as entire people irrespective of poor and rich are equal to the eye of law, the speakers said and emphasized on bringing all the victimised people under the legal aid coverage whatever and whenever they need. District Legal Aid Committee in association with two NGOs-Sachetan and Light House- organized the discussion titled “Promotion of Access to Justice and Ensuing Rights of Fair Justice for the Vulnerable and Adibashi Groups” held at Judges Conference hall in Rajshahi on Tuesday.
Senior District and Session Judge and Chairman of District Legal Aid Committee Hossain Shaheed Ahmed addressed the discussion as chief guest with Executive Director of Sachetan Hasinul Islam in the chair.
The chief guest said the government is committed to extend legal aid to the distressed victims and other litigants for their fair justice. So, all the government and non-government development organizations working in this field must be devoted and pledged bound to make the government endeavor a total success.
Special Tribunal Judge Abu Sufian, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Alam, Executive Director of Light House Harunur Rashid, District Legal Aid Officer Rejaul Karim, among others, spoke on the occasion.
The speakers emphasised the need for concerned efforts of all quarters to ensure access to justice of the distressed and disadvantaged people.
They viewed that infusing dynamism in the legal aid services could be the effective means of attaining the cherished goal.
They said only the judiciary or any other single organisation is not capable to ensure legal aid to the underprivileged people but a comprehensive effort is essential in this regard.
Importance should be given on ensuring close coordination between the works of all the development organisations and judiciary alongside building a network to earn positive result in this regard.
Besides, they emphasised the need for reaching the legal aid activities to the grassroots alongside expediting the services towards the poor and distressed victims for protecting their fundamental human rights.
