Call to enhance tax collection to uplift livelihood of people

Speakers at a discussion on Thursday said there is no alternative to enhance tax collection for improving living and livelihood condition of country’s people.
They also said emphasis should be given on creating more mass-awareness for boosting tax collection in the greater interest of making the country economically self-reliance.
Income Tax Zone of Rajshahi organised the discussion to mark the Tax Day-2017 on its office premises. On the occasion, a colourful rally was also brought out in the district town.
Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Dr Khandaker Ferdous Alam, commissioner of taxes, in the chair.
Tax Appellate Commissioner Sunil Kumar Shaha, commissioner of customs, Excise and VAT Syed Muazzem Hossain and President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md Muniruzzaman also spoke.
Lawmaker Badsha viewed that the enhanced tax collection from the internal resources could be the effective means of reducing the dependence on foreign aid for executing the uplift programmes.
He also said transparency and accountability should be ensured in the tax collection system so that more people are encouraged towards tax payment together with increasing the volume of tax collection.
