A human chain, participated by children, demanded an end to child trafficking in the country.
Carrying banners, about 100 children took part in the programme held in front of Jatiya Press Club on Monday.
The human chain was held marking the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.
The participants demanded protection of child rights and called on all concerned to play their role for ensuring the rights of children.
A third of trafficking victims are children worldwide. Hence, this year’s theme ‘responding to the trafficking of children and young people’ draws attention to the issues faced by trafficked children and to possible action initiatives linked to safeguarding and ensuring justice for child victims.
Social and Economic Enhancement Programme (SEEP), one of the consortium members of Trafficking through Strengthening Community and Networking (PCTSCN), organized the programme.
Advocate Rafiqual Islam Khan, manager, legal and policy support of INCIDIN Bangladesh, Zahid Hossain, Director of SEEP, Sharifullah Riaz, coordinator of PCTSCN project at Community Participation and Development (CPD), Sazedur Rahman, a social worker, among others, spoke on the occasion.
