Housing and Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain ordered to launch a cleanup drive against all illegal structures built along the river Buriganga and Turag immediately.
“There is no need to serve any notice afresh for the eviction. A list of the illegal structures is to be submitted to the ministry within the next seven days,” he said this on Sunday while speaking at a policy level meeting on the issue at his ministry here.
Works Secretary Mohammad Shahid Ullah Khandaker, RAJUK Chairman M Bazlul Karim Chowdhury and senior other officials were present, said an official handout.
Engineer Mosharraf asked officials concerned to prepare a list of the wetlands and water bodies that have been gobbled up by the encroachers along the two rivers and take stern actions against those individuals and entities involved in it. He said all have to go by the wetland protection law and there was no room for any deviation.
Regarding the construction of buildings in the city, the minister said a RAJUK official must be physically present while giving a layout for any building. In case of any violation, the minister said, RAJUK would serve show cause notice to the concerned official for his/her negligence in duties.
In addition, the minister said, a fresh list of the buildings that have modified or violated the RAJUK approved design should also be dealt seriously. He instructed RAKUK to demolish rooftop part of any building flouting the approved heights.
