State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga has stressed on creating social resistance against child marriage and sexual harassment to properly flourish talent of every girl child.
“Every citizen should come forward to prevent these social curses,” Ranga said this yesterday while addressing an awareness building workshop at Haji Delwar Hossain High School ground under Gangachara upazila as the chief guest.
With assistance of the Upazila Governance Project (UzGP), the upazila administration organised the workshop followed by oath-taking ceremony participated by students and guardians and showing red cards against child marriage and sexual harassment. With Gangachara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Aminul Islam in the chair, Upazila Vice-chairmen Fasiul Alam Dulu and Nazmin Nahar, District Coordinator of UzGP Jahangir Alam, upazila level government officials, addressed the occasion, among others. The State Minister said that the extent of child marriage and sexual harassment already started reducing though the menaces turned into chronic social diseases hampering normal growth and education of the female students.
“‘There is no alternative to preventing child marriage for proper education the female students and flourishing their talents to enhance women leadership and empowerment in building gender discrimination free society,” he said.
He called upon the teachers, guardians, public representatives, officials, religious and community leaders, civil society members and elite for launching a vigorous social movement to free the society from early marriage and sexual harassment.
Later, the State Minister, along with the students and guardians, participated in the concluding event of taking oath and showing red cards against child marriage and sexual harassment.
