Call to bring disabled to mainstream of society

A day-long view exchange meeting on ‘Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and Rights of the Disabled’ organized by Action on Disabled and Development (ADD) International was held on Sunday in the ITC meeting room of DC of Faridpur.
The meeting was chaired by Surjoday Protibandhi Sangstha president visually impaired Abdul Quddus Molla while ADC (Gen) of Faridpur Dr. ANM Abdus Sabur was the chief guest. Asma Akhtar Mukta, NGO activist moderated the meeting.
Aziz Ahmed Romel of ADD International through a power point presentation put up various details of SDG and the agenda on the backward and disabled people.
Speakers opined that as our total population consists of ten percent different types of impaired and challenged people so they cannot be ignored and they must be brought to the mainstream of the society to use their capabilities.
They said that the MDG has been successfully implemented with the initiatives of the present government bringing progress and prosperity of the country. “So we must take all out initiatives and programmes to achieve the targets of SDG by 2030,” they added.
They also said that the impaired people have capabilities and it must be sharpened through training so that they can be utilized in the development process.
Speakers urged upon the government to strictly observe the principles and laws formulated for the welfare and rehabilitation of the disabled people.
The discussion in the view exchange was participated by BSS Correspondent Prof. Md. Shahjahan, Awami League leader Nasmul Islam Levi, ADD representative Sushanta Das, Women Affairs Officer Daulatana Khondoker, District Education Officer Parimal Chandra Mondol, Social Service Officer Ahsanuddin and NGO personnel ANM Fazlul Hadi Sabbir, Suresh Chandra Howladar and Jahangir Alom of BRAC.
