Manikgan’s Shibalaya upazila administration and Public Health Department jointly arranged a colourful rally and discussion meeting to mark the National Sanitation Month-October 2015 at Upazila premises on Monday.
 Shibalaya UNO AKM Galiv Khan chaired the function where Upazila Vice Chairmen Md. Ali Ahsan Mithu and Tahmina Akter Later, Public Health Sub Assistant Engineer Babul Ahmed, BRAC WASH Programme Organiser Prodip Kumar Sarker, manager Shafiqul Islam, Sujer Hasi Click manager Mokammel Hossain Nannu spoke at the function.
The speakers said present sanitation coverage of the upazila is satisfactory. It should be continued. Present sanitation coverage is about 92%. A colourful rally paraded different roads of the Upazila to mark the day.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Collective efforts of all government and non-government agencies concerned including the community people has become an urgent need for attaining hundred percent sanitation coverage for the sake of freeing people from various air and water borne diseases.
To this end, time has come to transform the sanitation campaign into social movement with mass-participation for building a healthy society. There is no alternative to make the ongoing sanitation campaign a total success.
The observations came at an orientation held in the conference hall of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) here yesterday afternoon. RCC organized the meeting to mark the National Sanitation Month October and World Hand Washing Day-2015.
Main thrust of the programme was to gear up the ‘National Sanitation Campaign for all’. “Sanitation for All must for Improved Life” was the main slogan of the discussion.
Nizam-Ul Azim, Mayor-in-Charge of RCC, addressed the programme as chief guest with Chief Executive Officer Ajahar Ali in the chair. Secretary Syeda Zebin Nissa Sultana, Chief Conservatory Officer Sheikh Mamun and Ward Councilors Abu Bakkar, Sohrab Hossain, Ruhul Amin and Kamruzzaman also spoke.
