Victory Day observed: Call for speedy trial, execution of war criminals

National Desk :The Victory Day (16th December) was celebrated in different districts and its adjacent areas through different programmes on Tuesday amid huge enthusiasm and festivity.Different organisations including educational, political, socio-cultural, volunteer, professional bodies and trade organisations took part in various programmes including rallies, parades, art competitions, discussion meetings and exhibitions. Our correspondents and agencies report: Barisal Correspondent says: The three-day programmes to observe 43rd anniversary of victory in liberation war was ended in Barisal Tuesday with calling for speedy trial of all war criminals and rejecting anti-liberation forces in all spheres of life to remove the stigma surrounding the nation. Barisal Reporters Unity, arranged day-long third exhibition about facts, photos, documents and books on liberation war at BRU premises.It was inaugurated by Ahsan Habib Kamal, Barisal City Corporation Mayor at the morning of the day. Aruna Rani Saha, artist of Swadhin Bangla Beter Kendra also attended the programme as special guest. Guests were awarded crest from BRU.Barisal Sangskritik Sangothan Samanya Parishad (BSSSP), an alliance of the 26 major cultural organisations of the city, arranged the three-day programmes of discussion meetings, recitations, songs, dances, dramas and staging cultural performances at Barisal Central Shaheed Minar. Barisal Islamia College arranged cultural function in the college premises inaugurated by Prof. Mohsin Ul Islam Habul, principal of the college on the Victory day morning.(Gouripur, Mymensingh) Correspondent reports: The Victory Day was observed in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district in a befitting manner on Tuesday.  Then programmes the Victory Day began by started 31-gun salute at zero hours of midnight. Captain (ret) Dr Mojibur Rahman Fakir, MP, ex- State Minister for Health & Family Welfare , Ahmmad Tayebur Rahman Hiron ,Upazila Chairman , Dur-e-Shahwaz, UNO, Gouripur upazila and other officials of the upazila administration and the police department, Syed Rafiqul Islam, Mayor of Gouripur Pourashava, members of Gouripur Reporters’ Club, local political leaders, freedom fighters and students of different educational institutions and Gouripur Press Club placed floral wreaths on the monument Bijoy-71 at Zora Pokor Par of the upazila town.Narsingdi Correspondent says: Narsingdi District Administration chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the Victory Day with befitting manner, of them discussion, sports, display including doa and milad mahfil were held. Besides this, freedom fighters families mere accorded reception and wreaths placed at Victory memorial by Narsingdi District Administration.DC Narsingdi Abu Hena Morshad Jaman and SP Sheikh Rafiqul Islam took salute of a display participated by police, Ansar. Besides, different socio-cultural, political organizations including Awami League and professional groups also took various programs marking the day. The daylong programs were formally started with a 31-gun salute on the district collectorate office premises in the early hours of the day. The national flag was hoisted atop of all the public and private buildings at the sun-rising period. As part of the programs, people from all walks of life including political leaders , freedom fighters, and public representatives placed floral wreaths at the Independence memorial monument at Satpai at dawn. Friendly football match, sports competitions and cultural functions were also organized on the occasion.Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship. People of all ages and groups thronged at the martyred memorial plaque in Goalchamat area of the town to place floral wreaths to pay homage followed by a victory rally that marched to a mass grave located at the southern side of the stadium.Colorful march past and parade participated by police, Ansar & VDP, BNCC, scout and other school students was held at the local stadium where the ceremonial flag was hoisted by Deputy Commissioner Sardar Sharafat Ali and Police Super Md.Jamil Hassan.Special prayer was offered at the mosques, temples and churches.
