Department of Narcotics Control, Kishoreganj District Administration and NGOs jointly arranged a discussion, rally, seminar, postering, arts competition among the students and cultural function marking the International Day against drug abuse illicit trafficking on Wednesday.
A discussion meeting was held at Local Co-operative Community Center in the town Wednesday morning.
Acting Deputy Commissioner and D.S Tarafder Md. Akhter Jamil attended as chief guest while Sadar UNO Abdullah-al-Mashud in the chair.
It was addressed among others by D.E.O Mostafizur Rahman, Principal (Retd.) Rafiqul Islam Khan, Social Service Md Rabiul Islam, Senior Journalist Saiful Haque Mollah Dulu, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, Assistant Professor Samiul Hoque Mollah, Senior Medical Officer of Civil Surgeon Office Dr. Emran, Women Leader Bilkis Begum, Jail Super Bazlur Rashid and Assistant Director of Narcotics and Contral Md. Anower Hossain.
BSS from Khulna reports: Speakers here on Wednesday derscored the need for political and social commitments to combat trafficking of illicit drugs along with its trading.
They said about 80 percent of drug addicts are between 15 and 30 age groups. So, there is no alternative to take measures against drug smuggling to free the country from the curse.
They made the observations while addressing a meeting held at Khulna Officers’ Club in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking- 2017.
District Administration and Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) jointly organised the programme discussing ways on how to free the city from the curse of abusive drugs.
The theme of the day is “Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe.”
Additional Commissioner of Khulna division Md Faruk Hossain was the chief guest at the event with Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADM) Noor-e-Alam in the chair.
The chief guest said forging social resistance has become indispensable to uproot the crime as it is being adjudged as a grave concern in the society.
Additional Police Commissioner of KMP Mahbub Hakim, Commander of RAB-6 Khondokar Rafiqul Islam, Additional DIG of Khulna Range Habibur Rahman, Additional Police Super Md Shafiqullah, City and District Unit Commander of Muktijuddha Sangsad Sardar Mahbubur Rahman and Professor Alamgir Kabir addressed the event as special guests.
BSS from Rajshahi says: Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Shafiqul Islam has sought community support to make the Rajshahi metropolis free from addiction of different drugs and narcotics along with trading and trafficking of those.
“If you (community people) give us authentic information against the drug traders and businessmen, stern action will be taken against them within 24 hours,” he further said while addressing a prize-giving ceremony of a children fine-arts competition here on Wednesday as the chief guest.
BSS from Gopalganj adds: The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in Kotalipara upazila of the district on Wednesday.
On the occasion, a discussion meeting jointly organised by Upazila Administration and District Narcotic Control Office was held at the upazila Parishad Hall room. To mark the day, a human chain programme was also formed in the area.
