At least 5 injured in Noakhali AL factional clashes

At least five persons were injured in a clash between the supporters of two factions of the ruling Awami League (AL) in Noakhali on Thursday.
The incident took place between the supporters of the ruling party Lawmaker Ekramul Karim Chowdhury and District Awami League Joint Convener Advocate Shihab Uddin Shahin during an extension meeting in front of its office in the district.
In the meeting, Awami League Chattagram Divisional Organising Secretary and Whip Abu Sayed Al Mahmud Shapan was present as special guest, while local lawmakers Ayesha Ferduse, H M Ibrahim, Morshed Alam and Mamunur Rashid, among others, were present.
Eyewitnesses said that the incident erupted during the supporters of Ekramul and Shahin chanted slogans welcoming the central leaders outside the district AL office. One stage, an altercation took place between the supporters of two factions at that time.
At one point, there were chases and counter-chases and clashes between the supporters on both sides and left the five people injured.
Among the injured persons, Nazrul Islam was undergoing treatment at the Noakhali 250-bed hospital for better treatment.
Confirming the matter Sudharam Police station acting officer in charge (OC) Md Anwarul Islam said the situation has been brought under control in presence of additional members of the law enforcing agencies.
