Cabinet okays salary hike for judges

Staff Reporter :The Cabinet on Monday approved a proposal to hike salaries of Bangladesh Judicial Service members in line with the Eighth National Pay Scale. The proposal was approved in a regular weekly meeting of the Cabinet held at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.At the meeting, ministers, state ministers and secretaries concerned were present.The salary hike will be effective from July 1, 2015 while the increased allowances and other benefits will come into effect from July 1 this year, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters in a press briefing. The salaries were increased following the recommendations of the Bangladesh Judicial Service Pay Commission in line with the National Pay and Services Commission, he said.According to the new structure, senior district judges’ pay will match those of secretaries.Their basic pay has been raised to Tk 78,000 from Tk 40,000. District judges’ salaries have been hiked to Tk 70,925 from Tk 36,900, while additional district judges will now get Tk 62,350, up from the previous pay of Tk 32,000.Joint district judges’ basic pay has been hiked from Tk 28,000 to Tk 54,370. Basic pay of senior assistant judges has been raised to Tk 44,450 from Tk 23,000 and assistant judges from Tk 16,000 to Tk 30,935.Basic salaries of assistant judges at the entry level have been raised to Tk 30,950 from Tk 16,000, he added.
