The Cabinet on Monday adopted an obituary reference expressing profound shock and grief in the death of valiant Freedom Fighter and legendary singer and musician Lucky Akhand.
“The death of Lucky Akhand has created a vacuum in the country’s cultural arena which is irreparable,” read the resolution as it came at the weekly cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
It said the celebrated musician of more than 1,500 songs set a new trend in the arena of Bengali music.
The Cabinet recalled that Lucky Akhand, at the age of 15, actively took part in the War of Liberation in 1971 at the call of Bangabandhu and joined the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.
His melodious voice had played an important role in stirring up the Freedom Fighters while he introduced a new trend in the music during post liberation period in Bangladesh, the cabinet said.
The cabinet noted that in his long career the celebrated artiste in the musical arena Lucky Akhand was enlisted as a radio artiste and became the musician of the Pakistan HMV at the age of only 14 and melodist of Indian HMV at 16.
