Tax Fair- 2016 begins: Businessmen urged to pay tax for turning country into middle income nation : Minister

Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, MP, yesterday called upon all particularly the business community to pay taxes properly and spontaneously for accelerating development in building a middle income nation by 2021 and developed country by 2041.
Mosharraf also advised the concerned officials to extend tax network through creating new taxpayers and ensuring a hassle-free tax realization system so that people feel encouraged to pay all kinds of VAT and taxes properly.
“The government introduced various motivational campaigns like tax fair, survey and rewards for the best taxpayers to expand the tax network side by side expanding one crore taxpayers from existing 26 lakh,” the minister said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of weeklong Income Tax Fair- 2016 at GEC Convention center in the city.
Chittagong zonal four tax commissioner offices jointly organized the inaugural function followed by a discussion to inspire the people in paying income taxes to enhance national uplift through increasing revenue collection.
Speaking at the ceremony the minister said the rate of income tax earnings will be growing day by day in future if we can make simplicity in the tax realization system, ensuring proper atmosphere for the new tax holders together with building cordial relations between the tax officials and taxpayers.
He said such fair would help minimize the existing panic and anxiety among the public in general about tax payment and return submission. “There is no alternative to internal resources mobilization if we want to lessen dependency on foreign loan and aid in implementing the development schemes,” he added.
Convenor of Income Tax Fair-2016 and Zone-1 Commissioner of taxes in Chittagong Mahbub Hossain presided over the function while Sabiha Musa, MP,NBR Member Firoj Shah Alam, acting Divisional Commissioner Shonkor Ronzon Shah, president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mahbubul Alam, president of Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries Khalilur Rahman, Chittagong Customs, Exercise and VAT Commissioner Mohammad Sayed Golam Kibria, Deputy Inspector General of Police in Chittagong Shafiqul Islam, Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Iqbal Bahar, income tax commissioners Prodyut Kumar, Nazrul Islam and other high officials spoke at the function.
Sources said 30 stalls of two banks and others offices were set up in the fair. A tax prayer can get his certificate within half an hour after receiving all income-tax-related services provided by NBR, the source added.
The income tax officials will assist the citizens through 18 stalls in the fair in the matters of income tax payments, registering or re-registering their e-TIN numbers, e-TIN certificates, and calculation of income taxes and filling out income tax return forms.
The Janata Bank Limited and Sonali Bank Limited have set up two separate electronic payment booths on the fair premises where the citizens can easily pay their income taxes.
