Businessmen for adopting modern technology in agriculture

Businessmen at a training workshop in the city on Thursday stressed adopting modern technology in agriculture aiming to increase agricultural outputs.
“Export promotion, especially for the agricultural items, is very important. To boost our agricultural production, we’ve to adopt modern technology,” AmCham president Aftab-ul Islamh said at the closing ceremony of the workshop.
The three-day training workshop on ‘Promotion of Exports from Bangladesh: Product Certification and sustainable Development’ was held at the DCCI conference room, organized jointly by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) and USAID’s Agricultural Value Chain Project.
Speaking as the chief guest, president of American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh Aftab-ul Islam said exporters of agriculture sector of Bangladesh need more training in order to attain globally recognised expertise.
He stressed proper supply chain, value chain and preservation system of the agricultural products and said Bangladesh is now exporting good quality organic vegetables and fruits to the international market.
DCCI senior vice president Humayun Rashid said the businessmen here should analyse market, prepare trade map, find out potential and attractive market, and forecast competitors.
DCCI vice president M Shoaib Choudhury said Bangladesh is moving fast in the agriculture sector. “But, we’ve to ensure the sustainable development to get international market access with our diversified production base.”
USAID Chief of Party William T Levine, USAID Private Sector Adviser Aniruddha Roy and DCCI Secretary General AHM Rezaul Kabir were, among others, present at the closing ceremony.
