Bus service on 21 southern routes halted

Bus movement from Barishal on 21 southern route suspended following detention of two transport workers over the attack on students of Barishal University (BU).
The transport workers started demonstration from 11am on Saturday in front of Ruptali Bus Stand of Barishal city. They also burnt tyres.
Rafiqul Islam Manik, executive president of Ruptali minibus workers’ union, said they stopped plying vehicles on the 21 routes, protesting detention of two of their fellows and demanding release of them.
Passengers on the routes are bound to reach their destination by foot and with the help of alternative vehicles.
Barisal-Patuakhali Minibus Owners’ Association said two transport workers arrested in a case filed by the BU authority over the attack on the students that carried out on February 17.  
Denying the attack on the students, Kawsar Hossain said, “None of our fellows attacked on the students.”
Ruptali bus owners have already stopped bus plying on all the routes.
Police arrested two transport workers from Ruptali Bus Stand area of Barishal city around 2:30am on Saturday in the case.
