Buriganga trawler capsize death toll rises to 11

The death toll from the capsized trawler in the Buriganga River rose to eleven with the recovery of one more body on Friday morning.
The victim has been identified as Jamila Khatun, 65, police said.
South Keraniganj Police Station’s Offier-in-Charge (OC) Jamal Uddin Mir said that the diving team of Fire Service and Civil Defence recovered one more body in the river around 11:30am.
The body was found floating at Pangaon in Keraniganj upazila of Dhaka district, the police official said.
“Some people are still missing. Divers are continuing their search for rescuing them,” the OC said.
Deputy Commissioner Zillar Rahman handed over Tk20,000 to each victim’s family, the OC added.
On Thursday afternoon, eight people drowned and at least 20 were injured after a trawler carrying 70 to 80 passengers capsized in the Buriganga River at Pagla, sources said.
