Bumper wheat production likely

Farmers and Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) are expecting a bumper production of wheat in the district during the current season.
DAE office sources said a total of 15,000 hectares of land have been brought under wheat cultivation in five upazila of the district with the production target of 45,000 tonnes of wheat.
Of them 7,000 hectares have been brought under the cultivation of Prodip variety, 4,000 hectares of Bijoy variety, 2,500 hectares of Sotapdi and 1,500 hectares of land under Bari-25 variety.
Deputy director of DAE M Asraf Ali told BSS wheat cultivation has increase this year then the last year because less expensive of the cultivation.
Farmers Abdul Majid and Subash Chandra of Sabuspara village under Debiganj upazila of the district said at least ten maunds of wheat can be harvested from one bigha of land and each maund of wheat is sold at minimum Taka 800.
Last year I got Taka 8,000 by selling wheat from one bigha of land, Majid added.
The DAE has supplied all necessary seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other agriculture inputs free of cost among the farmers to achieve the production target.
