Bumper wheat production likely in Panchagarh

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is expecting to achieve a bumper wheat production in the district during the current season.
A total of 15,000 hectares of land under wheat cultivation this season in the district eyes with an output target of 45,000 tonnes of wheat, DAE sources said.
Of them 7,000 hectares of land have been cultivated under Prodip variety, 4,000 hectares of land under Bijoy, 2,500 hectares of land under Sotapdi and 1,500 hectares of land under BARI-25 variety.
Deputy Director of DAE Md Asraf Ali told BSS wheat cultivation has increase this year.
Farmers Abdul Majid and Subash Chandra of village Sabuspara under
Debiganj Upazila of the district said that at least ten maunds of wheat can be harvested from one bigha of land.
Farmer Abdul Majid said that last year I got Tk 8,000 by selling of wheat from one bigha of land.
The DAE has supplied all necessary seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and other agriculture inputs free of cost among the farmers to achieve the production target.
