The farmers of in all the six upazilas of Narsingdi district are expecting bumper maize production this season due to favorable weather conditions and timely supply of necessary agriculture inputs.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Deputy Director Md Mokshud Ali told The New Nation that the farmers of Narsingdi Sadar, Shibpur, Raipura, Balabo, Monohardi and Polash upazila have cultivated the crop on around 6007 hectares of land. A target has been set to produce 5463 tonnes of maize this season.”
The farmers have already completed sowing of maize seeds after harvesting early variety Aman paddies. The farmers are seen interested as they see high profit against low cost production cost.
Farmer Abdul Latif of Charmandaliya village of Monohardi upazila said that this year I have cultivated maize on two acre of land which costs only Tk 20 thousand per acre. I am expecting minimum Tk 1,00,000 as profit from the land.” Another Farmer Abdus Sobahan Buhyan of Comolapur village of Narsingdi Sadar upazila said that I have cultivated maize on 70 acre of land which costs only Tk 10,50000. I am expecting minimum Tk 300000 as profit from the land.
To make the programme successful, DAE, BADC, BARI and other NGOs distributed quality maize seeds among the cultivators and different Banks including Bangladesh Krisi Bank (BKB) provided agriculture loans among farmers in the region.
We hope that the farmers of the district will get Bumper production of maize as because of favorable weather, timely irrigation and timely supply of all necessary agriculture inputs. The DAE arranged training programmes for farmers and carried out campaign for using organic fertilizer before cultivation. We also give technical support to the maize farmers for their well production, he added.

BSS from Joypurhat adds: Farmers of three upazilas in the district are expecting a bumper production of maize this year due to favorable weather.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said, a total of 600 hectares of land were brought under the maize cultivation in three upazilas of the district this year with the production target of 4,000 tonnes of maize.
Of the total land, about 100 hectares were brought under maize cultivation in Joypurhat Sadar upazila, 350 hectares in Panchbibi upazila and 150 hectares in Akkelpur upazila.
