Bumper Aman production achieved in Khulna

Despite heavy rainfall this year, farmers of Khulna achieved bumper Aman pady. But smiling faces of the farmers are not being observed as the government gas not yet fixed price of the paddy.
Farmers sources said, due to heavy rainfall, taka 6 thousands were expensed for per bigha field. The concerned authorities of the government have not yet fixed prices of Aman paddy. Farmers will not be able to be benefited if a good price is not fixed in time, sources added.
Khulna district agriculture extension office said, target of harvesting Aman paddy has fulfilled this year. The target was 95245 hectares while 91625 hectares Aman paddy was produced in Khulna.
In the fiscal 2015-16, 2,63,556 metric tons rice was produced by harvesting paddy from 93890 hectares land.
Despite bumper production, farmers are compelled to incurloss due to non fixing the price of paddy by the government and the dishonest hoarders avail this opportunity. They purchase paddy from the farmers in exchange of Dadon (High Interest). As such the farmers do not get real price of paddy.
Abul Fajol, a farmer of Dumuria upazila area said, we have expensed taka two thousand more than that of the last year, due to heavy rainfall seedbed was damaged. Production of Aman paddy is good this year, but we are apprehending of getting good price.
Shamsul Haque, a farmer of Digholia upazila area said, We had to sell paddy in the rate of water last year, so we demand of fixing price earlier this year.
Abdus Salam Tarafdar, district Marketing officer said, the price of the paddy is fixed by the government’s specific fixers. If the price is fixed earlier, the farmers would be able to be benefited more, he added.
Mahbubur Rahman Khan, Khulna district Food Controller said, the food Ministry has not yet fixed the price of paddy this year.
Khulna Agriculture Extension Office sources said, 270 hectares of Aman paddy in Khulna Metro area, 3750 hectares in Rupsha upazila, 1755 hectares in Digholia, 1070 hectares in Phultala, 16000 hectares in Dumuria, 515 hectares in Terokhada, 19050 hectares in Dakop, 16450 hectares in Paikgachha and 15250 hectares paddy were produced in Koyra upazila area this year. Md. Abdul Latif, Deputy Director of Khulna District agriculture Extension Directorate said, Production of Aman paddy is better this year, target was fulfilled.
