Court Correspondent :
The Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka on Sunday asked defence lawyers of the 22 accused in the BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case to submit the High Court order on transfer of the tribunal by December 22.
Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka passed the order yesterday after the hearing on a petition filed by the defence lawyers seeking no-confidence in the judge.
Earlier on December 3, the defence on behalf of their clients brought a no-confidence plea against the judge of the tribunal while the tribunal fixed Sunday for hearing on the petition.
In the petition, the defence lawyers said, the judge recorded depositions of the prosecution witnesses (PWs) in accordance with the law but he did not record their depositions properly while cross-examining the witnesses. So, they felt that they would not get justice from the tribunal, they said in the petition.
They will submit an application with the High Court for transfer of the case, they added.
The prosecution opposed it saying that the defence submitted this petition only to hamper the trial of the case.
The same tribunal on September 15 framed charges against all 25 accused in the case.
Meanwhile, forty out of 60 PWs, including the complainant of the case gave their depositions in the case.
On October 7 last year, Abrar, a second-year student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was beaten to death by a group of the university unit Chhatra League men in the Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university.
