Even at the eleventh hours of Bangla month Falgoon, sweet smell from budding mango trees fills the air in around the orchards of Khulna city and nine upazilas of the district, recalling to the people “O Ma Faguney Tor Amer Boneyr Ghraney Pagol Korey”, one of our national anthem composed by the Nobel Laureate poet Rabindra Nath Tagore.
Farmers of Khulna city and nine upazila areas of the district are hopeful of bumper yield of the popular summer fruit due to favorable weather.
Mango trees in the city and also district areas were already budded with colorful mango buds, spreading flavors in the air.
Visiting different mango orchards, this correspondent found the farmers busy in taking care of the trees as fruits began arriving at many places.
Keramat Ali, 52 who has cultivated two acres of land at Senhati village in Digholia upazila said that he is expecting to get bumper yield if the weather remains favorable through out the season.
Sunil Das,46, a farmer of village Shamontoshena in Rupsha upazila sai that if the weather remains okay and the agriculture department cooperates them, they are expected to get bumper yield of mango this year.
Nikhil Chandra Dhar, sub-assistant Horticulture officer (SAHO) of Daulatpur Horticulture office said, Mango trees have budded in a plenty of this year and as such bumper production of mango are expected this year.
Md. Abdul Latif, deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said, “We are always ready to help the cultivators who are cultivating mangoes.”
“Our officials, if necessary, would visit the orchards and give all kinds of assistances as per their need “, he added.
On 1650 hectares of land in Khulna, Mango trees are cultivated this year.
Due to favorable weather this year production might be increased this year, expected Md. Abdul Latif.
