Budding mango trees spread fragrance in Khulna

With the advent of the Bangali month of Falgun, sweet smell from budding mango trees fills the air in around the orchards of Khulna district, recalling to the people “O Ma Faguney Tor Amer Boneyr Ghraney Pagol Korey”, one of our national anthem composed by the Nobel Laureate poet Rabindra Nath Tagor.
Farmers of the district are hopeful of bumper yield of the popular summer fruit due to favorable weather.
Mango trees in the city and also district areas were already budded with colorful mango buds, spreading flavors in the air.
Visiting different mango orchards, this correspondent found the farmers busy in taking care of the trees as fruits began arriving at many places.
Abul Kashem, 45 who has cultivated two acres of land at Senhati village in Digholia upazila said that he is expecting to get bumper yield if the weather remains favorable through out the season.
Ranjit Mojumder, 48, a farmer of village Shamontoshena in Rupsha upazila sai that if the weather remains okay and the agriculture department cooperates them, they are expected to get bumper yield of mango this year.
Kazi Anisuzzaman, deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said, “We are always ready to help the cultivators who are cultivating mangoes.”
“Our officials, if necessary, would visit the orchards and give all kinds of assistances as per their need “, he added.
