The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) Prof Khondoker Md Nasiruddin left the campus on Sunday night with police escort.
Earlier, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has recommended the Ministry of Education for the withdrawal of BSMRSTU VC based on evidence of irregularities and corruption.
The UGC probe committee, formed to investigate the irregularities and corruption allegation against the VC, on Sunday afternoon submitted its report to the Ministry of Education with the recommendation.
Prior to this, the inquiry team submitted its report to UGC chairman Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah.
On September 24, the UGC formed the five-member committee to investigate the situation of BSMRSTU as students of the university have been demonstrating since September 18, demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor for his alleged involvement in corruption and irregularities.
On September 25, the five-member team, led by UGC member Dr Muhammad Alamgir, went to the BSMRSTU campus and talked to teachers, students and other concerned people. The team members stayed on the campus for the two days.
The committee was formed by the UGC as the education ministry on September 23 sent a letter to the UGC, asking to form a probe body to investigate the situation at BSMRSTU in Gopalganj.
