BSMMU nurses call off strike

The nurses of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) withdrew their strike after forming of a probe committee to investigate allegations of assault.
The BSMMU authorities in an emergency meeting formed a three-member probe committee on Thursday to investigate the incident.
A group of nurses went on strike on Thursday morning after a reported assault on their fellow worker by a BSMMU hospital staff member.
The nurses observed the strike from 10am in front of the Outdoor Unit of the hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh Police Station Abul Hasan said that they called it off around 11:30am, after the authorities assured them that they would investigate the matter.
The OC said: “The situation is under control now. They are going back to work.”
The hospital director could not be reached on phone for comment.
Wishing to remain anonymous, a hospital official said that a nurse, her husband, and a hospital staff member got into an altercation on Wednesday night.
The matter was resolved by the authorities at night, but the nurses went on strike over the issue in the morning.
Abul Hashem, an attendant of a patient, told The New Nation that his father has been suffering from various diseases. He came from Gazipur to meet a doctor on Thursday morning. But he had to go back due to the strike.
