BSMMU faces heavy rush again

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital in Dhaka is once again seeing the load of Covid-19 patients as the coronavirus pandemic renews its grip on the capital.
On spot visit, a rush patients has been found at the hospital.
Relatives were trying utmost to admit their patients considering it a largest and best government hospital.
Turning back patients the officials of the admission desk have become tired to convince relatives that the hospital has a limited capacity.
They were also trying to make them understand that the patients’ who need not high care right now, should stay away from the other serious patients.
There are patients infected by different variants of covid strain like Indian (delta) variant, South Africa variant and such more contagious strains.
So, patients and their relatives should stay away from such patients as the delta like aggressive variants infection might create deter consequences.
“If we take admissions 50 percents of the patient come every day, it will be impossible to accommodate them here,” one of the officials of the desk told The New Nation on Sunday.
We are taking admission critical patients, whose oxygen saturation is below 93 percent, he added.
When contacted, Brigadier General Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam Khan, Director, BSMMU Hospital told The New Nation on Sunday, “The rush of the patients have elevated for the past several days.”
“If such pressures continue, it will be unbearable for us as our accommodation capacity is limited,” the Director said.

There are about 230 general beds and 20 ICU beds are dedicated for the covid patients.
On Sunday only one bed of ICU found vacant after one patient died. Besides, about 124 beds were full in general beds keeping 106 vacant.
Surely, some beds are remaining vacant but it had to keep ready for serious patients only, officials said.
They said the mostly pressure have been created on them for the ICU beds here.
“There are 20 ICU beds in the hospital. But the patients demand is many more. While one seat is vacant, minimum, 10 patients stand in queue to capture that,” said Monir Hossain, an official of admission desk on the cabin block of the hospital.
About five patients have been admitted on the day while many more have been returned.
Mobarak Hossain (55), a covid patient admitted with severe condition, his daughter said it while paying cabin rent. Besides, Popi, 30 another patient from Rajshahi also admitted before Mobarak Hossain.
The relatives of the both patients express happiness while talking with The New Nation for getting beds there.
