Brothers Union Club posted their second win in the Bangladesh Premier Football League with a 2-1 goal victory over Chittagong Abahani Limited held on Saturday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Brothers Union came close to scoring early in the 11th minute, but Nigerian forward Kester Akon missed it as his shot from the box went over the crosspiece having one on one situation with goalie M Piaruzzaman under the bar.
Chittagong Abahani Limited were very close to score when their forward Masuk Mia Jony’s shot was saved by Brothers goalie Sabuj Das Rogu for corner in the 25th minute.
However, forward Jewel Rana gave Brothers Union lead in the 32nd minute with a placing shot after the ball was provided by Faisal Mahmood (1-0).
In the 34th minute Brothers Union could have been doubled the lead but Jewel Rana’s header hit the far post on a corner off midfielder Faisal Mahmud.
Brothers doubled the lead through their substitute forward Victor Antoni in the 83rd minute. After taking a ball from midfield, the wily midfielder Rubel Miah went past two defenders and took a shot to goal post but goalie Piaruzzaman blocked the ball. The Nigerian forward Victor placed the ball into the net on the rebounder.
Midfielder Atikur Rahman reduced the margin for the port City team Chittagong Abahni with a nice header from the vantage position in the 87th minute.
With the day’s win, the all orange Gopibagh ‘outfit’ earned 6 points from 4 matches while the port city ‘outfit’ remained on their previous collection of one point from the same number of outings.
