UP elections: Brother contesting against brother

A brother has been contesting against his brother, a candidate of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) from Mandarbaria union parishad under bordering Moheshpur upazila.
The BNP backed candidate and his brother is Jaglul Pasha and his younger brother SM Jafrin Pasha. SM Jaglul Pasha fighting with the shiefs of paddy while Jafrin seeks the symbol horse.
Election Commission office sources in Jhenaidah said, the election of the union parishads of 12 unions of Moheshpur upazila will be held in second phase on March 31. As a part of the elections six intending candidates have submitted nominations for the position of chairman in Mandarbaria union.
Ruling party candidate Aminur Rahman has bagged party symbol boat, while the rebel candidate Shaidul Islam seeks the symbol pineapple. The BNP candidate SM Jaglul Pasha was assured of shiefs of paddy, while the younger brother SM Jafrin Pasha seeks horse as his favourite symbol. The Jaaatiya Party (JP) candidate Delim Reza is fighting with the symbol Langal (plough) and the Jamaat e Islami supported candidate Abdul Mannan seeks motorbike to contest in the election. Some locals said, SM jaglul Pasha is the incumbent chairman of Mandarbarioa union parshad and president of the BNP in same union. SM Jafrin Pasha is the president of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal in Manderbaria union. They are the sons of SM Rabiul Hossain of the village. But no one is eager to consider the position of the chairman in upcoming election.
Babul Hossain a resident of the village when contacted said, they are confused when two brothers have been going to contest in the polls. Another village Abdur Razzaque expressed the same opinion as two brothers are contesting for the same position in the union.
SM Jafrin Hossain, younger brother of the AL candidate when contacted said, his elder brother SM Jaglul Hossain during past Union Parishad election assured him that he (Jaglul) will not participate s the chairman. Rather he will extend his all-out cooperation towards Jafrin. As the elder brother did not honour the commitment, Jafrin has no alternative to contest in the polls, he said.
In the other hand elder brother SM Jaglul Hossain said, election is not a game at all. If he considers the position for the interest of the younger brother, the position might be lost in the election that compelled him to contest in the polls for Manderbaria union of the bordering Moheshpur upazila. He will bag the seat once again, Jaglul said.
